The world's largest fresh water lake without an island

Ranked Top 3 for Best Lakes to Fish on in Almaguin Highlands!

This popular Ontario vacation destination of Almaguin Highlands/North Muskoka is located less than three hours north of Toronto and home to a very unique lake; Lake Bernard.

Why Are We Unique?

Lake Bernard is large in comparison to

the majority of Ontario’s thousands of

lakes, yet there are no islands. Another interesting characteristic is that it is not connected to any other lake.

Without islands and no interconnection between lakes, Lake Bernard has been a beautiful mystery to many! Just to the south, the Muskoka Lakes region is famous for its hundreds of lakes that are full of islands, and most of these lakes are interconnected. Why isn't Lake Bernard the same?

Many suggest that Lake Bernard is the result of an ancient meteor strike; however, not proven, but it would account for it's depth creation. With an average depth of over 150 ft and rumoured to be as deep as 400 ft in some spots, Lake Bernard is much better known for its fabulous fishing than for its claim to fame as a geographic oddity.

Why Choose Lake Bernard?

Lake Bernard is the northerners' secret "Pearl of the North".

This is a quiet lake with little motorboat traffic, sparse shoreline development, and exceptionally clean waters.

Most of the homes around the lake are privately owned and are not occupied year round. The little development around Lake Bernard has helped hide it from pollutants and kept it in its beautiful natural state.
